FAQ: Which Sign Level Class Do I Register For?

This is a complicated question to answer.  It depends on both your Expressive and Receptive Sign Skills and which sign language you use most.

Do you use ASL or Signed English to communicate in a social setting?  Do you use PSE, MCE, SE or SEE in an educational environment?  How many signs do you know?

The online classes follow the lessons in the appropriate level SEE Student Workbooks.  You can expect to learn approximately 1 lesson per week for each 6 week session.  That means you will learn at least 30 words per week, or about 180 words for each 6 week Beginner session and even more words for the Intermediate and Advanced levels..

Beginner Levels - Student Workbook (720 words)

Beg 1 = Lessons  1- 6 (180 words)

Beg 2 = Lessons  7-12 (180 words)

Beg 3 = Lessons 12-18 (180 words)

Beg 4 = Lessons 19-24 (180 words)

So, how many words do you know?  Take a wild guess.

Do you know more than 720 words?  Proceed to the next level.

Intermediate Levels:  More Signing Fun Workbook (600 words)

Int 1 = Units 1-5 (200 words)

Int 2 = Units 6-10 (200 words)

Int 3 = Units 11-15 (200 words)

Intermediate levels 4-10 learn more words and use practice stories to increase interpreting speed.

Advanced levels 1-3 are for fluent SEE signers who want to increase fluency and be more expressive.

So does this answer your question as to which level you want to register for an online class?

If you are still unsure, sign up on the Webinar Wait List.  There is a question asking if you want  a Zoom meeting to evaluate your sign skills.  Select yes and we will contact you for an interactive Zoom webinar to work with you to assess and help you pick the right level for your ability.  We aim to find your comfort level for these classes.

Hope to hear from you soon!
